Gardening by Flashlight

Last night I returned home from a quick visit to California.  Over the weekend was my mom's birthday and I was lucky enough to be able to be there to celebrate.  My return flight didnt get in until midnight and by the time hubby and I got to the house, it was 1:30.  I have to be at work at 630, which means I would have to get up around 5.  I have found that I do better if I stay up opposed to only taking a nap, especially when adjusting to a different time zone.  So, it is now 530 and I havent gone to bed yet.  I have to report to work in less than an hour.  I took my flashlight out to do the chores this morning.  I was only gone a week, but everything on the farm has changed.  The goats look huge (they are probably not much bigger, but humor me).  The ducks and chickens are growing like weeds (speaking of weeds- lets not get me started).  Then there is my garden.  sigh.  While in California we planted a garden for my mom- but its not the same as my own garden.  The corn is knee high, the lettuce beds are overflowing, the potato bed is full and the peas are tall enough to trellis.  This morning I squatted down in the pea bed, wearing my pjs and robe to string the peas through the chicken wire.  At 4 am... ah its good to be back in my garden.
