How I save Mulah$$

I thought I would share my awesome deal from today with ya'll.  I stopped by Safeway after work today just for some pizza crust.  We have a small amount of fresh veggies from our garden, as well as sauce and cheese.  I thought I would make a from the garden veggie pizza and didnt have time to make home made pizza crust. Anyways, I digress... so I stopped by Safeway, and took my coupon binder in just in case.  Weellllll... they had 4 packs of yoplait greek yogurt for 1/2 half off (blueberry only).  Instead of $3.29 which would be the normal price, they were marked down to $164.50.  I had a $.75 coupon.  I figured I would pay $.90 cents each.  Not bad... wait for it...it get's better... Safeway doubles coupons $.99 and under.  Who knew?  Ends up that my 4 pack of yogurt was $.14 cents.  Wahoo!  Now thats a way to save.  My bill came out to $10.40 and included 3 4packs of yogurt, 2 iced coffees (ill come back to them later) and 2 packs of pizza dough.  This was less than my lunch bill and will last way longer than just one meal.  I figure we can get at least 2 meals from the pizzas.  The iced coffees save money because a) I had a coupon for them and b) they keep me satisfied so I dont have to buy a $5 frappacino.  In the afternoons I tend to crave something cold and coffee-y.  Starbucks frappacino light is my go to drink but at $5 a pop it has a hefty price tag.  These international delight coffee drinks are a half gallon for $3.99.  I had a $1.00 coupon so I paid $2.99 for a half gallon.  That will last me quite a while.  Starbucks beware (or at least send me coupons so I can afford your coffee).  Sadly the only things I didnt have a coupon for was the pizza crust (which was the one thing I actually needed), but never fear- they were on sale 2/$4.  So technically everything I got was on sale, or at $.14 nearly free.  If only every grocery trip was this mulah saving!
  P.S. You know how the register prints out more coupons?  Yup.. another one for the coffee drinks.  Yay!

Dining Room Update

Hubby has been working a ton, which leaves me at home alone some nights...and I get the urge to paint. Needless to say, the dining room got a total overhaul!
I painted the walls purple (in case you don't remember, they were yellow before- not a super pretty yellow but more of a washed out faded yellow. had to go.) We had sold the table set when we thought we were moving. I redid a craigslist table and chairs, added some antique pieces and the room is totally different. Check out the sneak peak. A total reveal will come soon...

Fridge in process

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am really trying to spruce up the house without shelling out a lot of dough. The kitchen was remodeled most of the way last year. There are still little things that need to be done, and I am working on finishing it completely. Not that the fridge needed a new look, but I was bored, had a can of chalkboard paint and need I say more? Hubby never knows what he is going to come home to! muwahahaha....
I should be doing laundry, cleaning, and all other sorts of wifely duties while hubby is at work. Instead I am making mess after mess with my new "projects". Yesterday hubby came home to the fridge in the middle of the kitchen. Today the fridge is back in its place, but there is a mirror I am in process of painting, drying on the kitchen floor.
We painted the fridge with 2 coats of chalkboard paint. Check out the difference in between coat 1 and 2. Now it needs to wait 3 days to cure. On the 3rd day we will rub chalk all over it, so that the fridge is "white" again. Then it can be wiped down and used as a real life chalkboard. wahoo! All I can say is that if I write the grocery list on the fridge I wont need to include eggs- I am proud to announce that we are back to getting 3 eggs a day. keep it up ladies!

The house with the yellow door

Our front entryway has been long overdue for an upgrade. Considering how finances are pretty tight right now we dont have the funds to replace our door I decided to repaint it. I wanted something bold and funky and fun to spice up the place. After browsing pinterest looking for inspiration, I figured yellow would do the trick. After convincing the paint man at the hardware store that yes, I really did want to paint my door bright yellow, I got started right away. After painting the first coat I starting doubting my decision. The paint wasnt drying (maybe because it was raining and damp outside) and looked all splotchy. After three coats it looks good to me. I now say with gusto, we are the house with the yellow door!

Dining room table

Hubby and I have been trying to save money and pinch pennies so that we can afford to fix up the place. There wasn't too much money in the budget for a dining room set so I got creative. I bought a cheap table off craigslist, sanded it down, painted it up and put it out. I then bought some chairs from a farm near baltimore. They have great frames, but are super hard to sit on and the upholstery isnt exactly in my colors. I I bought a staple gun, and learned to use it on the chairs. I dont know why I have never bought a staple gun before. This thing is awesome! I love the "new" chair and will do the rest this weekend. What do you think?

Drive to work

Depending on how you see it, one of the "downsides" of living out in the country is that it takes forever to get to work. Im not talking a 2 hour metro commute to get into DC, but the nearest town is about 30 minutes in any direction. While I dont like being in the car for an hour a day on my way to and from work, I have to say that the scenery makes it all worth it. Check out the lovely ladies I pass on my way into town. I stopped to take their picture and they all came flocking to my car wanting their glamor shots. Who could resist?
Further down the road is this church with an old cemetary. I love cemetaries. Like really love them! One morning the fog was thick and I couldnt pass up on the opportunity to photograph the cemetary. If I cant knit on my way to work, at least I can admire the scenery!
